Nets for Mulungwishi
The New Mexico Annual Conference Mission Project for 2010 is “Nets For Mulungwishi, Congo”. The Conference Board of Global Ministry is asking for money to purchase 15,755 life saving bed nets. Rev. Tom Nagle, Albuquerque District Superintendent, has challenged each church in the conference to raise $10 per person according to the average attendance that church reported for 2008. The average attendance in 2008 for First UMC was 346 people—so our challenge is to raise $3,460.00. As a conference, our goal is to raise $157,550. So far, First UMC has raised $1,514 towards our goal. Have you given your $10 yet? Your contribution can be placed in the offering basket or mailed to the church office. (Please write Congo or Mulungwishi in the memo field on checks.)
Grace Meal
For over 25 years First United Methodist Church has opened its doors to the hungry. Every Monday at 12:00 noon, volunteers (with the exception of the dishwasher) gather to serve between 275 and 350 meals. Many volunteers are needed in preparing, serving, and clean-up. If you are interested in serving in this vital ministry, call Art Cochrane at 505 243 5646 or click here to e-mail and put "Grace Meal" in the subject line.
Project Angel Tree
Project Angel Tree is a prison based program in which First UMC has
participated in for several years. This ministry provides an
opportunity for these children, of incarcerated parents, to receive
Christmas gifts. For more information call their toll free number 800
55 ANGEL or visit their website www.angeltree.org/site_hmpg.asp.
LOVE INC (In the Name of Christ) of South Albuquerque
We are partners with many other churches in the south Albuquerque area
who seek to provide help for the homeless and needy through Love INC
(In The Name of Christ) of South Albuquerque, a clearinghouse for
requests that normally cannot be met by a local church. These requests
may include furniture, baby layettes, help with transportation to
physicians, etc. By transferring the request to the clearinghouse, the
person’s need has a better chance of being filled from one or more of
the partner churches. For more information, call Carol Kaemper at 505 259 2919. Volunteers are needed to help at the LOVE INC Clearinghouse.
FOOD PANTRY
We work to keep local food pantries stocked so that nonperishable items
can be provided to those in need. “Food drive Sunday” is the first
Sunday of each month; bring food items to the church and it is taken to
various agencies for distribution. For more information, call the
church office at 505 243 5646.
