Thoughts from Kelly Brooks, Director of Christian Education
There’s no place like home!
Dorothy spoke these immortal words in the unforgettable film, The Wizard of Oz, as she clicked her red, sequined heals in hopes of returning to the familiar surroundings of her farmhouse in Kansas.
I will admit, I often feel this way when I am out of my element in new places, surrounded by new faces and in the midst of new experiences. I sense we all feel this way at times, even in our own familiar spaces.
A few weeks ago, I found myself living in a dorm room in Kansas City, Missouri, where I was attending a seminary course on Evangelism with St. Paul School of Theology. Although I had visited Missouri on several occasions, and although I did live in a
dorm in the mid-1990s, this experience was new, exciting, and somewhat
intimidating.
I gleaned much from the class itself, but it was in the meeting of new people and being personally challenged that made me want to click my heals and wish to return to the safety of my home.
Change is never easy, even when it is for the best. This includes change for the individual, change for the group, or change for the organization.
I am reminded that Christ never calls us to be comfortable, but calls us to be better, which takes discernment and often change in our lives.
I challenge each of you to ask yourselves, “Am I comfortable? Am I living the life God calls me to live? Is God calling for a change?”
Blessings,
Kelly
