History of our Church

Detail from stained glass window First United Methodist Church was organized in 1880. After its organization, the congregation erected an adobe church in New Albuquerque.

In 1905, the little adobe church was replaced by the building located at the corner of Third and Lead, SW. It is the oldest Protestant church in Albuquerque and the oldest Methodist Church in continuous use in the New Mexico Conference. This building, with its original silver steeple and Tiffany stained glass windows, was registered as a New Mexico Historical Site in 1978 and is now used as our Fellowship Hall.

During the 1950s, a new sanctuary and education building were erected at Fourth and Lead, SW. This space now provides a home for Wesley Kids Childcare and Preschool, which opened in 1991, as well as space for the weekly Grace Meal, adult and children's Sunday school, and other community and church activities.
