First United Methodist Church

Downtown Albuquerque

What are you looking for?

Sometimes, if we're honest,

     we don't even really know.

Something real.

Something hopeful.

Something lasting.

Something good.

Something that welcomes

     without judgment.

Something that makes a difference.

Something deeply,

     authentically spiritual.

We've found some things,

we're trying some things,

we're willing to share.

First United Methodist Church

Downtown Albuquerque

We are the oldest Protestant Church in Albuquerque. Our founders began meeting across from the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Old Town, and quickly decided to buy property close to the train station in the brand new part of Albuquerque that would become Downtown to the north of us and Barelas to the south.

In 2020 we turn 140... but we want you to know that, throughout all those years, there has always been something NEW going on at First United Methodist Church, in the heart of Albuquerque.

Welcoming Statement

We believe that all persons are created in God's image and are of sacred worth. We believe that faithfully following Jesus Christ requires us to extend God's gracious hospitality to all. We believe in the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of First United Methodist Church, Albuquerque.

We feel led by the Holy Spirit to make clear that we welcome and affirm persons without regard to age, race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, family configuration, economic status, or developmental and physical ability.

The Mission/Vision of First United Methodist Church:

We are First Church Downtown,

building relationships with Jesus Christ

as we Connect, Involve, Restore, Unite

for the transformation of the world.

It all starts with connection. To God, to others, to community, to church. We begin with a basic affirmation of the importance of connecting, and a goal to foster those various connections as best we can, with God's grace.

Once we're connected, what do we do? Get involved! Get involved in a relationship with God through spiritual practices, get involved in our community through outreach, get involved with one another in deep and authentic ways.

Involvement leads to the recognition that there are things in need of restoration.

There are ways to heal, and experience healing, in our relationships with God and others.

God promises to work in us and through us to put things right in our communities, and in our own souls.

Jesus prayed that his followers would be one... living in unity with each other, and with God known as the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The great Christian mystics down through the ages followed Christ and attended to the Holy Spirit's leading in the grand spiritual pursuit of union with God.
